Interview with Megan Guerra owner of Rose & Sugar
NSSIR: Megan, you offer such a special service here in Sacramento—our real estate advisors have absolutely raved about your bakery business and how your custom cookies are such a unique, thoughtful gift that helps them connect with their friends, family and clients. Can you tell us more about Rose & Sugar Custom Cookies?
Megan: Thank you so much! Rose & Sugar is a home bakery specializing in custom decorated sugar cookies and cookie decorating classes. I host monthly classes partnering with other local businesses, and I offer private classes for all occasions. Taste is always our #1 priority but I also take such pride in decorating truly meaningful, personal and memorable cookies for each customer. This business is the perfect combination of everything I love and I am so happy I get to share it with the community where I grew up.

NSSIR: How did you get started with your business?
Megan: Like many others in the year 2020, my cookie journey started out as a hobby during the pandemic. I was pregnant with my first child right when everything shut down and I was looking for ways to get creative and I’ve always loved to bake, I somehow stumbled upon cookie decorating on Instagram or Facebook. From that moment on, I was hooked! I practiced and practiced and… practiced! I initially offered cookies to friends and family, then I opened a part-time home bakery in the Bay Area. My business really kicked off when I moved back home to Folsom in 2022 and I’m now doing it full time. I am so thankful for how much we’ve grown just in this past year thanks to all the community support!

NSSIR: What do you think resonates most about your brand?
Megan: I think and I hope that customers can see how much thought and intention goes into every order. I treat every customer and order as if it were my own family, or my own event and I give it my all. I love that cookies are such a unique way to show someone you care, it’s creative, delicious and an opportunity to make someone feel special. It’s not just about cookies—it’s about creating moments of connection and kindness. I also get such joy out of decorating floral cookies and I hope customers enjoy that floral touch I tend to bring to my sets.

NSSIR: Tell us a little about your “Kind Cookie” program.
Megan: This is something I’ve been wanting to launch for a while, and it felt like the right time. I’ve been noticing how much people are craving connection and looking for ways to show up for one another. The Kind Cookie boxes are designed to celebrate everyday heroes—teachers, nurses, grocery clerks, postal workers, even neighbors.
Each box is a small gesture that can really brighten someone’s day and remind them they’re appreciated. I’ve always loved writing thank-you notes, and this is an extension of that—just in a sweeter form. It’s about celebrating acts of kindness, big or small.
As Mister Rogers said, “Look for the helpers. There’s always people helping.”
You can submit any gift box nominations on my website roseandsugar.com!

NSSIR: That’s such a beautiful initiative. Can you also tell us about your cookie classes?
Megan: Absolutely! My classes are designed to be fun, welcoming, and a great introduction to cookie decorating. I try to plan my cookie classes around holiday themes and love to partner with local businesses for class locations. For example, we hosted a festive Easter-themed class at High-Hand Nursery in Loomis featuring soft pastels and spring-inspired designs. I think what makes my classes unique is that I do not shy away from teaching all kinds of techniques. I love showing people you can basically do any cookie technique if you break it down into manageable steps. I also love getting to work with all ages! I have different class options for kids parties as well.

NSSIR: Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Megan: I really appreciate you giving me this opportunity to chat about my business. I am usually working in my kitchen, it’s awesome to have a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and feel energized for what’s coming! Speaking of what’s new…Rose & Sugar is officially offering classes through the City of Folsom’s Parks and Recreation this summer so I hope we get a great turnout! Just another wonderful opportunity to get involved with the community & spread cookie kindness! Thank you!!
